Let's Talk About Pizza

Too often do we see the term “pizza” misused. It is just thrown around to describe hundreds of dishes that are just too different from each other to be considered the same thing. For a little while, I thought that I did not even like pizza. Its not that I don’t like pizza though, its just that I’m very particular on the type of pizza I eat.

Most people think pizza and they think of a Domino’s style smeared sauce on thick dough. That is thought of a more American style pizza. Even New York style pizza looks deep-dish to Italians. Authentic Italian pizza is all about a paper-thin crispy crust with toppings that are usually thought of as elaborate salad ingredients.

So next time you say pizza, just take a minute to think what you’re talking about.

What type of pizza do you like?

  1. How can I pick? I love all kinds of pizza! Even cafeteria pizza! And pizza lunchables! They each have their own appeal.

Walking into a nice Italian restaurant and having a delicate and subtle one-person pie topped gracefully with fine ingredients and paired with just the right wine is a truly great experience, an homage to tradition and sophistication.

But at the same time, there's just something wonderfully fun and carefree about grabbing a large, cheesy New York slice with your buds, maybe while watching some trashy TV and sipping sugared heart-attacks or carrying on about the latest fads.

And those pizza lunchables may be villains in the battle against childhood obesity, being that they are irredeemable industrial glook with no nutritional value, but as a kid there's something undeniably awesome about eating junk. And as you get older, eating that same junk reminds you of how it was as a kid.

So all pizza is good. Can't decide which type's my favorite. Can't. Won't!

  2. I must say that your words are true. Pizza. It beats burgers and hot dogs in the American fast food long run. I'll admit that I am still more of a proud pizza snob, but I completely agree with what your saying. Eating pizza is an experience all on its own.
